Undefined Behavior

Signed overflow, out-of-bounds access, strict-aliasing violations, and unsequenced modification are not merely wrong — the compiler may assume they never happen and optimise on that basis. Interviewers ask because "it worked at -O0" is a real production story, and because ASan and UBSan are the expected way to find it.
